Where it started
Agarwal Rabdiwala has been serving passengers at the railway parking area of Abu Road Railway Station since 2017. It began the way a lot of station food counters do — small, local, built on one dish the family already knew how to make well. In this case, that dish was Rabdi, and it's stayed the anchor of the business ever since.
Why Rabdi specifically
Rabdi is deceptively simple on paper — milk, reduced slowly, sweetened, sometimes topped with a bit of dry fruit — and deceptively hard to get consistently right. It needs patience more than skill: rush the reduction and it tastes thin and overly milky; get it right and it's thick, faintly caramelised, and holds together in the cup. Founder Sanjay Singhal built the business on getting that consistency right, order after order, which is a big part of why regular passengers on this route started asking for it by name rather than just "something sweet."
From a station counter to an IRCTC food partner
Word travels fast among people who take the same train routes repeatedly, and Rabdi orders started coming in not just from passengers on the platform but from people ordering ahead for their coach and seat. That's what eventually led to formally partnering with IRCTC's e-catering network — the same Rabdi, the same thalis, now reachable by anyone with a valid PNR on a train passing through Abu Road, not just people physically standing on the platform.
What's grown, and what hasn't changed
Today, Agarwal Rabdiwala has handled more than 20,000 train food deliveries and serves a full pure vegetarian and Jain menu — thalis, combos, snacks — not just Rabdi. What hasn't changed is the basic promise: food cooked close to delivery time, not sitting for hours, and handed to you at your own seat rather than expecting you to leave the train during a short halt.
Still a family-run counter at its core
Despite the growth, the operation is still centred at that same railway parking area location at Abu Road, open from 9 AM to 10:30 PM. For a lot of long-distance travellers on the Ahmedabad–Delhi line, it's become a small, reliable point in an otherwise long journey — the stop where the food is worth waiting for.
