Abu Road is where the train journey basically ends
If you're headed to Mount Abu, Abu Road Railway Station is as close as the train gets — from here, it's roughly a 45-minute to hour-long drive up the ghat road by bus or taxi. Which means for most travellers, Abu Road is the last real "sit down and eat properly" opportunity before a winding hill road that isn't much fun on a full stomach, or an empty one.
Eat before the ghat road, not during it
The drive up to Mount Abu has enough curves that even people who don't usually get carsick sometimes do. A heavy, greasy meal right before that climb is a rough combination. A proper thali — dal, roti, sabzi, rice, eaten with a bit of time to settle before you get in the car — tends to work out a lot better than snacking on the way up.
What's worth ordering at Abu Road
A vegetarian or Jain thali covers the "proper meal" need well. If you're travelling with kids or just want something lighter, the combo options — dal fry with jeera rice, or paneer with roti — are easier on a stomach that's about to deal with hairpin bends. And don't skip the Rabdi if you have room for it; it's the one thing Abu Road is genuinely known for regionally, and it travels fine in a sealed cup if you want to save it for after the drive instead.
Time it around your train, not the taxi stand
If you're ordering through e-catering to be delivered to your seat before you even get off the train, place the order about an hour before your scheduled arrival at Abu Road. That way your meal is done, and you're not standing in a taxi queue outside the station juggling food and luggage at the same time. Eat on the train, step off ready to head straight up to Mount Abu.
Coming back down is a good excuse too
The same applies in reverse — if you're catching a train onward from Abu Road after coming down from Mount Abu, pre-ordering means you're not scrambling to find food in the short window between arriving by taxi and your train's departure. Either direction, a little planning around Abu Road turns a rushed, hungry changeover into an actual meal.
